Welcome, P.J. MacLayne to my blog! Since it’s Friday, she’ll answer five questions to help you get to know a bit more about her and her books. Be sure and check them out, and follow her on social media.

The Baron’s Cufflinks, Book 3 of the Oak Grove Mysteries

What starts as Girl’s Night Out ends in murder, and Harmony Duprie is a suspect.
She’s innocent, of course, but with no alibi, the sheriff’s department won’t remove her from the list of suspects. It doesn’t help when a waitress from the bar gets beaten up and the only clue is a slip of paper with Harmony’s name on it. Throw in a rookie deputy dead set on building his reputation and Harmony must tread carefully.
But caution isn’t Harmony’s middle name and she plunges head first into danger to defend her honor.
What she finds is a web of half-truths and suspicions implicating several law enforcement agencies, with Jake, her ex-lover, stuck in the middle of it all.
Can Harmony rescue Jake and find the real culprit before she becomes the next victim?

Born and raised among the rolling hills of western Pennsylvania, P.J. MacLayne still finds inspiration for her books in that landscape. She is a computer geek by day and a writer by night who currently lives in the shadow of the Rocky Mountains. When she’s not in front of a computer screen, she might be found exploring the back roads of the nearby national forests and parks. In addition to the Free Wolves’ stories, she is also the author of the Oak Grove Mysteries series.

Five on Friday Questions

If you could snap your fingers and make one thing happen, what would it be and why?

Right now? Go a few days in the past, take the unwanted water from the Houston area and redirect it to Southwestern Oregon/ Northern California and dump it on the huge forest fires there. I used to live in the area and can only imagine the damage being done to the beauty of the forest and hills. (Let alone the people who have lost or are in danger of losing their homes.)

Ann: You’re very kind. As a Texan, I thank you for your good wishes. As devastating as Harvey was, Texans are tough and will survive with the help of all the support they’re receiving.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’m pretty darn close right now, but I’d live in the mountains. I haven’t decided which mountains, and there are a lot to choose from. But give me a snow-covered peak and trees as far as the eye can see and a lake down the way and I’m happy. Granted, I will need internet access.

Ann: Don’t even get me started on internet service. I hate to rain on your parade, but except for the mountains, I have a lake out my back door, trees everywhere and just to load this post, I have to work between 2 and 8 a.m.!

Do you laugh at your own jokes?

I have a wry sense of humor. I think I’m funnier than other people do, so I try not to laugh at my own jokes in case they don’t.

Ann: Laughter is contagious. Just as much as a yawn. So go ahead and laugh at your jokes. Others will join in!

What is the loveliest thing you have ever seen?

A field of wildflowers (all colors and sizes) on the top of a mountain in early summer. Alternatively, the side of a mountain covered in golden-leafed aspens on a sunny day in the fall.

Ann: That sounds bee-u-ti-ful!! That’s the kind of scene I could just stare at all day.

How do you choose a title for your book?

I’m normally very bad at titles. But because I have two series, it’s easier. Each series has a running theme. The mystery series have titles based on jewelry, and the urban fantasy/paranormal romance series is based on chess. I’m not sure what will happen when I run out of types of jewelry before I run out of stories. I can’t imagine naming a book after a belly button stud.

Ann: You made me laugh! I bet others think you’re much funnier than you believe.
