NEW DIRECTION, NEW COVERS
Back in March, when it came time to renew my contract with my publisher, I chose not to. No hard feelings. They have been super to work with over the last three years, but I wanted to move in another direction. It has become very popular to “Indie” publish these days, and I wanted to give that a try. It has been a challenge. Mainly because, I had to get the two books already published, republished under my ownership.
At the same time, I had the third book in the Tizzy/Ridge series done, and a New Adult Romance story finished, and also a reference book about verbs. So…I had five books to get ready.
I had people doing covers, formatting, and advising me about marketing. At the same time, I had people helping me edit. I had so many people involved, I had to keep a list of who was doing what!
Well, I’m in the home stretch. I have all the covers. I have proof copies of all the books except one, and I should have it shortly.
Although it has been hectic, it has been a good learning experience.
Today, I’m sharing the new covers for my first two books, Laid Out and Candle Lit…and You’re Busting My Nuptials. I hope you like them.
Keep watching. In a few days, I’ll reveal the cover for the third and final installment of this series, TIED WITH A BOW AND NO PLACE TO GO!
JACE AND MAGGIE EXCERPT
TELL ME A SECRET~~~a love story.
Maggie’s been keeping all her secrets in journals since she was 10 years old. Jace is fascinated by that and is dying to find out what they are…especially if she has any thoughts about him.
Jace laughed again. “Read me one thing you’ve written about me.”
“No.”
“C’mon. Just one thing. One sentence. Then I’ll hang up and won’t bother you anymore.”
“Fine. One thing. One sentence.” Maggie’s heart fluttered. She fanned the pages of her journal, stopped on one and smiled. “Tonight….

Book is due for release in August! Even though the book will be listed as New Adult Romance, it’s a love story, that, hopefully, will make you laugh and cry and once you finish the book, you’ll still be thinking about Jace and Maggie for days!
Here’s a brief summary:
Jace Sloan has it all. He’s smoking hot, a college football star with a storybook family, and he’s never met a woman he couldn’t charm. He’s also never met one who makes him want to be a better man…until he meets Maggie. Now, this self-proclaimed geek with wild red hair and the greenest eyes he’s ever seen has him thinking all kinds of crazy thoughts. Like settling down and being a one-woman man.
Maggie Fielding is anything but Jace’s type. For starters, her IQ is bigger than her chest size. But Jace is panty melting hot, and she’s having a hard time remembering that he’s bad news. If only she could stop telling him her secrets, because her answers to his questions just might have both of them falling in love for the first time.
Be sure and register at the site below to win one of five books to be given away. Contest runs until the end of August!

WRITE ON! BLOG HOP
Meet Linda Rosen
Linda Rosen and I have been cyber friends for several years having met on The Next Big Writer website. I was thrilled when she invited me to take part in the Write On! Blog Hop.
Linda is in the query phase of trying to get her unique novel, FLOURISH, published. I say unique, because it’s based on a true story about a winery run completely by women! Yep, that’s pretty dang unique! She also has a blog, http://lindarosen.blogspot.com/, where she offers information from the fitness classes she teaches. Check it out and you’ll find excellent exercises for stretching out those muscles after sitting a computer all day!
~~*~~
Well, enough about Linda. Let‘s talk about me, let’s talk about I, let’s talk about number one oh-my-me-my!
I’m a native Texan with big hair. I’ve been married to the same man since dirt. I love shopping a thrift stores. A really sharp pencil makes me happy. I hate talking on the phone and I’m thankful wrinkles aren’t painful. I’d love for you to follow me on twitter @Talkin’Twang and all those other social sites…Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Goodreads, etc.
WHAT AM I WORKING ON?
A better question might be what am I not working on? I have so many irons in the fire I have a hard time keeping them all going. My first young adult romance, TELL ME A SECRET, will be released in the next two months. I’m editing the third novel in my Tizzy/Ridge Trilogy, TIED WITH A BOW AND NO PLACE TO GO, which should be out by the end of summer. In the trilogy, one popular meeting place is Sweet Thangs Bakery and owners, Pattiecake McAlister and Sugarpie Monroe, have just finished a cookbook with all…you got it….Sweet Thangs! It will have about 100 delicious recipes of cookies, cakes, pies, cobblers, and more!!
I have another non-fiction book about verbs which will also be out soon. In addition, I have started a romantic comedy and a middle grade book for girls!
HOW DOES MY WORK DIFFER FROM OTHERS OF ITS GENRE?
There really aren’t many authors who write humorous mysteries, so that alone sets me a part somewhat. Then of course, I’m a native Texan, so anything I write will have plenty of Texas Twang and Southern Sass!
WHY DO I WRITE?
Easy question. Two reasons. Control and Boredom. My stories are the one place where I have total control over my characters. I can make them be anything or do anything I choose. I can’t do that anywhere else. Plus, their lives are so much more interesting than mine!! I lead a very plain, ordinary life, so by writing, I can add all the crazy zany stuff that makes life fun!!
HOW DOES YOUR WRITING PROCESS WORK?
I’ve used every possible routine a writer can use. I’ve written by the seat of my pants where I just sit down and start typing with no idea where the story will go. I’ve outlined and followed a formula for each chapter. I’ve written in the wee hours of the morning and I’ve written late at night. I’ve gotten up in the middle of the night to write. I’ve written every day and I’ve gone weeks without writing. The thing that works best for me is to outline and write every day when I’m working on a story. Once it’s done, I try to take a break from it for a few days before I start editing. Once I do first round edits, then I get a couple of readers to give it whirl. After I get their suggestions, I edit again and run it through a couple of programs…Pro Writing Aid, Editminion, and sometimes Ginger. After I do all that, I feel like it’s ready to go. I do prefer total silence when I write. The words in my head can’t compete with anything else going on.
Now, I’d like to introduce you to another author who happens to have out several new books…but I’ll let her tell you about them next week on her blog. http://cyndilord.wordpress.com/
Cyndi Lord lives with her husband Gene, two dogs, and two cats on a ranch in Northeast Texas. She retired a few years ago after nearly three decades of owning her own investigation and paralegal business. Launching her career in full time writing in 2013, book one of The Sandra Derringer Chronicles, They Call Me Murdered, released in January of 2014. The paranormal murder mystery hit Best Seller on Amazon in the first weeks. As a versatile author, she proved herself two months later when her children’s picture book, Nick The Owlet’s Adventure hit Amazon’s Best Seller list within the first weeks. In April, her third book, A Plain Wish, for young adults and older, book one in The Plain Series, hit top twenty-five sellers the first day it released. This Amish theme book is sure to be a huge success as readers await the next book. “It’s a dream come true, and I am truly blessed,” Cyndi said. This summer, her five state book tour will end in Michigan where she and her husband will spend a few weeks with their nine adult children and sixteen grandchildren.
Benefits of Attending Writers’ Conference
This past weekend we celebrated our 28th anniversary of Northeast Texas Writer’s Organization’s Writers’ Roundup. Although our attendance was down a bit, it was a great conference. Those above are just a sample of the fine speakers willing to share their knowledge.
I’m sad I don’t have a picture of presenter, Mr. Fred Campos, who gave a wonderful presentation about social media and how important it is. He gave inside info of how to make it work for you. If you need a program on Social Media, I highly recommend him and his company, [email protected] or at the site below:
DFWWebsiteDesigners.com He’ll customize a program to fit your company and your needs and he presents it in a fun way.
If you attend a conference, not only will you hear good speakers, you’ll get to talk with agents and other authors, who will share their publishing experiences. You’ll learn what marketing methods have worked for them and what hasn’t. You’ll get information about what websites are beneficial…names of editors, cover designers, and printers.
Our directors this year were husband/wife team, Ron and Caryl McAdoo and they did a fabulous job. Caryl landed an agent at our 2012 conference and just had a book released by Simon and Schuster (Howard Division)…Vow Unbroken (Historical Christian romance) Be sure and check it out on her website www.CarylMcAdoo.com
If you’re a writer…at any stage from beginner to published, I hope you’ll find a conference near your area and attend.
Oh…and did I forget to mention the best part? This was the first year for our conference to sponsor a First Chapter Contest…and guess what? I won for the first chapter of my College-age Contemporary Romance, TELL ME a SECRET, scheduled for release next month! I’m so excited. I’ve been working on this story for e-I-g-h-t looong years and it’s finally going to be out for the world to read. I’m anxious to share Maggie and Jace’s story.
Keep watching for the cover reveal, coming soon!!
P.S. If anyone can tell me how to increase the size of my font on wordpress, please do so. I worked for two hours today and thought I had it fixed…and it seems I don’t!!!!#%*
