Paula Hardin’s Mantra: Never give up,never surrender

Today’s guest is Paula Hardin. Let’s get to know her a little better! And as always, remember to leave reviews on Amazon for the books you read! Nothing helps an author more than reviews.

Paula Hardin is a southern girl from New Orleans, with a passion for everything paranormal, mystical, and different from normal everyday life. Currently, she is working on something outside of her comfort zone writing a different genre, hoping to gain a different audience. Don’t be disappointed though, because her paranormal romances are too much fun to abandon. She fills them with suspense and danger but ends with a happy ever after.

Paula has a huge love for artwork, painting with acrylic, media art with her grandchildren. She loves to watch wild animal documentaries, Youtube art videos, and tiny house construction programs.

The five questions Paula chose to answer.

What is your favorite thing to do during your spare time besides writing?
Drawing/painting in acrylics, watercolors, oils, charcoals, and mixed media, attending comic cons, and doing things with my husband and grandchildren.

Ann: I wasn’t blessed with much painting talent, but I can use a glue gun!

 What is your favorite quote?

Never give up, never surrender

Ann: That’s a good one.

What is your favorite book, and why?

Dark Prince by Christine Feehan. Why? The book changed my life. It opened my world to a new genre I never dared to think to read. While waiting for her next book to come out, I started to write a book. Now I’m a writer/author.

Ann: It really did change your life!

What took you by surprise as an adult?

Becoming a grandparent. When I was young I thought about marriage, jobs, being on my own but never being a grandparent. It’s the most indescribable love between grandparents and grandbabies.

Ann: Yes, and you don’t have to be in charge of them 24/7!

 What are you passionate about?

Besides writing, it’s drawing/art, wild animals, mythology lore, Europe/Italy.

Peculiar People Day

Are you peculiar? Do You admit to anything weird? I have a list of things I’m weird about. I won’t use a pencil unless it’s really sharp! I won’t drink sodas from a can. I won’t turn around and go back for anything once I leave the house.

Let me know in the comments what you’re weird about. One lucky commenter (if in the US) will win two bars of Hanna’s goat milk soap!! She’s a character in my novel, Chirp.

Feel free to share this post.

And as always, I want to remind you to post reviews of the books you read. They help authors!!

Romance from a Man’s Point of View

Not many romance books are written by men, but today on my blog, I welcome Adam Mann, who has written quite a few. Be sure and check out his work, and as always, remember to review books you read on Amazon. Reviews are important!!

I have worked for over 50 years as a sustainable development consultant for emerging economies in Africa and then Asia, but have now retired and live with my family in a mountainous area of Vietnam. In my retirement, I have published seven novels, and under my pen name, I have written another 32 romance novellas, some of which have been self-published.

Nobody loves like an Irishman!

By a sheer stroke of bad luck, Henry gets caught in a tropical storm whilst he’s swimming in the sea. He sensibly gets out of the water and finds shelter in a beach house, and a few moments later is joined by an equally sodden rain drenched lady.
Felicity is cold and wet and she has nothing dry to wear so she asks Henry to hold her so that they can both benefit from their body warmth until the rain subsides.
The story is set in South East Asia and culminates in modern day Singapore, but the note above is only the start of a very long story…

Excerpt:

The rain had not abated. Henry looked around and saw another figure struggling through the storm, and moving toward him. As the figure approached, he realized it was a female wearing a sodden straw hat and thin gossamer shawl also saturated. He held out a hand to help the woman climb the steps to the verandah, and noticed she was wearing only a bikini under her shawl.
“Thanks,” she acknowledged in English.
She took off her wet hat and dropped it on the floor. She had wet hair, and the color wasn’t distinguishable. Her thin shawl clung to her body and barely covered her dark blue-green bikini.
She shivered and took off the shawl looking around her, just holding it in her hand.
“Do you live here?” she asked.
“No,” he replied, “like you, I’m sheltering from the rain.”
“But you’re just as wet as me,” she smiled at him.
“I was swimming in the sea when the deluge started.”
“That’s what I was planning to do.” She smiled again and shivered. “Don’t you have a towel?”
Henry pointed to his towel still covering his haversack on the floor and picked it up to wring it out. He draped the towel over the handrail just out of the rain.
He reached for her hand, and they moved together, just touching one another, but she shivered again looking up at him.
“Is there anyone here?” she insisted looking at the door.
He shook his head; “Bolted on the inside.”
They moved a bit closer, and immediately their bodies responded. Her wet skin had been cold, but now it warmed a bit. She looked up at him again. “My name’s Felicity.”
“Hi, Felicity, I’m Henry.”
She turned to face him putting her arms around his waist and stood like that for several minutes.
“If I take off my bra will you promise to behave?” she smiled again, “it’s uncomfortable when it’s wet.”
He looked down at her and could see her drying hair was probably an auburn color, not so long and just down to the shoulders.
“Unclip it please, Henry,” she said.
He used both hands to undo the clip, so that effectively they now stood facing one another, and holding one another with both arms.
As the clip came undone, she moved away slightly so that the bra fell on the floor at their feet. There had not been any shoulder straps that he could see.
She wriggled a bit and looked up at him; “Thanks, that’s better.”
Her breasts were small, and her bra had been generously padded.
Henry took a deep breath. “Warmer?”
She smiled in reply, having to put her head back to look at him.
He could feel her warmth through his swimming trunks.
“What are you doing here?” she asked.
“I’m staying at a Rest House on the cliffs.” He nodded toward the headland at the end of the beach.
“I’m staying with some friends in town, but we couldn’t agree on what to do this morning, so I came here alone, and then the rain started,” she offered an explanation.
Shorter than Henry, he placed his hand on her waist, then slid it lower to her bottom.
“Wow,” she breathed, and laughed, “definitely warmer now!”

Excerpt:

Bringer of Chaos: Forged in Fire is military science fiction with romantic elements. This excerpt is the foreword, which was “written” by Pietas, the hero.

You’re human. Lies are your nature.
Truth is mine. Honoring my word means more to me than life.
Humans are craven, contemptible and reprehensible supplanters of power. What you need is the truth.
Traitors among my kind lied to you. They concealed themselves among you and claimed we were myth. They fed you false hope you were safe. They lulled you into complacent ignorance. The deceivers manipulated, confused, and desensitized you.
You chose to believe the lies.
You’ve heard tales of visitors from outer space. Stories of aliens who walk among you. You called them urban legends, myths, tall tales for the campfire, untrue.
You refused to believe the truth.
This book relates my tale but is not from my point of view. Call it Science Fiction, but it happened. I exist. My dimension is not yours, so you have not been aware of me–until now–but I know everything about you.
To honor a worthy human friend, I considered sparing humanity. I have since seen the folly of blanket exemption. Not all of you deserve to die, but there are requirements for being protected. Will I choose you?
Perhaps. I offer no guarantee. Your fate is a bequest no one can usurp.
Believe me.
Read this, if you dare to know the truth.
~ Pietas

Bringer of Chaos: The Origin of Pietas
The Sempervian Saga (Book 1)

Why should Pietas end the war with humans?
His people are winning, yet they insist on peace talks. The Ultra people want to grant humans a seat on the Council. Pietas ap Lorectic, Chancellor of the High Council, War Leader and First Conqueror, disagrees. What’s best for mortals is oppression, control, and if necessary, elimination.
Pietas seethes with rage at the idea of human equality. Humans might have created Ultras, but the creation has far surpassed the creator. Humans die. Ultras are reborn, no matter how grievous the injury. They have no equals.
His people permit him no choice. He must attend these insipid peace talks on Enderium Six and what’s worse, be polite. To humans.
When a human special ops warrior is killed in battle, he’s resurrected in a secret process and inducted into the Ghost Corps. He’s given enough strength to perma-kill immortal Ultras. Ghosts are the most hated and feared of warriors.
When the ghost entraps and captures Pietas at the peace talks, the two begin a long journey toward Sempervia, an isolated and forgotten world. Once there, Pietas is marooned and the ghost abandoned alongside him. The two must either fight to perma-death, or join forces to survive.
As Pietas comes to trust the human, an unlikely and awkward friendship begins. Until he discovers how ghosts are resurrected…

Five on Friday with Frankie Capers

Today, I am pleased to welcome Christian writer, Frankie Capers to Five on Friday. As of this post, the questions will be more general and less about writing. Some will be downright silly but fun to answer…I hope.

Please check out her children’s coloring storybooks…just in time for those little ones on your list!

As always, I encourage you to write reviews on Amazon or your other favorite retailer for the books you read because they are so important to authors!

Frankie Hambrick Capers is the mother of three daughters and one son, all of whom are married. Her10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren provide her with a wealth of story ideas. She also has published works of poetry. While she was employed, she wrote for her company newsletter.

Frankie retired to East Texas and writes to instill in children the desire to read and get caught up in a world of imagination much like her own childhood.

In addition to her Children’s Story-Coloring Books, where children can color the story they are reading, she enjoys writing poetry, singing, sewing, square dancing, and spending time with family and friends.

Frankie’s Five on Friday questions.

You open your front door and find a penguin wearing a cowboy hat. What does he say?
“Have you seen my horse? He’s a black and white paint.”

What is one strong memory that has stuck with you since childhood…and why?
I’ll always remember the Sunday morning I accepted Jesus as my Savior at the age of nine. It was a meaningful and important step for me. I remember our preacher coming to my house the week afterward to talk to me before I was baptized the next Sunday.

What is your favorite book and why?
The Bible is my favorite book because it has been my guide throughout my life. God answers my prayers through His Word. I love to read and study it daily. It’s a historical book of war and peace, as well as miracles and romance.

Do you have any family traditions? If so, what?
For the past forty-two years, those of our family who can (over 100), come together for family reunions on Thanksgiving at the same Community Center in deep East Texas.
Another tradition for me is to spend Christmas with one of my four children. Since my divorce twenty years ago, they have insisted I not wake up Christmas Day alone. So, I have rotated spending Christmas holidays with one of them and their family each year.

What is your favorite TV show of all time and why?
“The Andy Griffith Show” has always been my favorite TV show, because it’s a clean family show that’s funny, entertaining and always teaches a good moral lesson.

Frankie’s Books

Sniffy and Suzy are two adorable skunks that thought they would stink and not be allowed on Noah’s Ark. But, God called everyone, so they boarded. Children need to know they each have a purpose in life, and should never feel unwanted or unimportant. Available in English and Spanish.

Juneau’s mother was teaching him to breach the water in his home in Alaska. She was also telling him a family story of his Great-Great Grandfather, Old Barnacle that swallowed Jonah. Family stories should never get lost in time but should be kept alive and retold to children.

One spring a fawn was born in a flowerbed. Deer eat all the roses, so to keep one rose around she was named Rosebud. Her mother left her there but returned for her at dusk. She grew to be a beautiful doe. The following Christmas Eve, she received a gift she would always remember.
